David Barton has resigned from the American Conservatives for America (ACAA) over his involvement in the Christian right movement.
Barton, the president of the conservative advocacy group, has previously expressed his support for Donald Trump and expressed his opposition to abortion and same-sex marriage, both issues that are considered deeply Christian in many circles.
The former president of ACAA also has been involved in various conservative media outlets, including the far-right American Thinker, Breitbart News reported.
Bartolos decision comes on the heels of reports that ACAA will not allow its members to use their own names to sell books or promote their products.
ACAA announced its decision to revoke its agreement with David Barton in February.
ACNA, the Christian Coalition, and the Freedom From Religion Foundation have all filed lawsuits against Barton.ACAA had a strong presence at CPAC this year, with attendees paying upwards of $5,000 to attend the annual conference.
The organization has had a long history of backing conservative causes and politicians.
Barton was a keynote speaker at the 2014 CPAC, but he was not invited to speak at this year’s conference.
